Let God Romance You

I know by the title, you are probably so confused, and possibly a little creeped out. Perhaps the thought of God romancing you, makes you feel uncomfortable. That’s okay. It made me feel that way, when I was first told about this. The thought of God loving me intimately in that way, seems strange, and unlike his character. However, God refers to himself multiple times in the bible as the bridegroom. He longs to romance us. Not in a inappropriate way, but a in way in which our souls long to be romanced.

Have you ever been somewhere by yourself, looking at his creation, and felt that the scenery had been painted just for you? I know I have. Last July, my family, and some of our friends went on a vacation to Yosemite. I would go outside of our cabin every morning, and read my bible. The sun would peer through the trees, and kiss my skin. In that moment, I felt romanced. I was completely smitten with my creator, and he was smitten with me. I felt beauty had been created in a moment, just so I could experience it. The kind of way a man prepares something beautiful for his love, I felt God had done for me. I was being romanced, and I wasn’t even aware of it. The heart of a woman longs for romance; it’s a deep desire within our souls. Not only has God created romance for man and woman, but he has created it for our hearts and his, together.

Step away from the busyness of life for a moment. Block out the thoughts swimming around in your mind. Get to a quiet place, and let God romance you. Ask him to show you something beautiful, for a moment, you can see a glimpse of the vast amount of love he has for you. It’s magical when it occurs. Your heart lights up, you get flutters in your tummy, and you smile big because you know the creator of the universe is enamored by your beauty, and all that you are.

I have never really ever read the book, Song of Songs, in the bible before. I’ve heard a lot of christians make jokes about the book, saying if’s full of romance. Because I had never thought of the idea of letting God romance me, the book seemed a bit out of place in the bible. Why would God have a whole book of romance in the bible? Because he loves it, he created romance. It isn’t some desire given to us from the world, our creator invented it. Don’t you think the creator or romance, would do it the best? I decided to read a few verses and what I read, reminds me of a adoring letter from a lover.

Song of Songs 4:1a & 7

“You are beautiful my darling, beautiful beyond words! You are altogether beautiful my darling, beautiful in every way.”

When I read this I thought, me, darling? HOW? How could I be darling to the creator of the universe? What does that even mean? I looked it up, to get a deeper understanding of why it is so beautiful. The word darling means, beloved. Some synonyms for the word include: dearest, precious, adored, loved, cherished, treasured, esteemed. WHAT??? This is what God thinks of me. Immediately, I was filled with a happiness, quite unexplainable. I felt darling and I felt beautiful. God is saying this about you too. Read it, and let those words penetrate your heart. You are DARLING to the creator of the world. Let him pursue you, and win your heart. Let him romance you, and show you his love for you. Take some time away from everything, and spend some time in his creation. Ask him to show you how much he loves you. I’m telling you, when he does, you will be amazed, in awe, and wonder. It’s unlike anything I’ve ever experienced before. I like letting God romance me, and I know he likes it too.
